The Alabama Humanities Foundation and the Tuskegee Area Convention & Visitors Bureau have invited the public to “Alabama’s Black Belt: Geography of Space and Place” at 5:30 p.m. today.
The program at Tuskegee First United Methodist Church will feature Dr. Terance Winemiller, a geography and anthropology professor at Auburn Montgomery, who will discuss life in the Black Belt.
Since abolition and the decline of plantation agriculture, many changes have taken place throughout the region. This lecture and slide show employ maps and video presentations to explore the concepts of space, place, region, and topophilia in human geography, and reveals the distinctive culture found only in this region.
The presentation is free and refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Shirley Baxter at 334-727-9363.
