Re: [Nationwide] Online Searchable Death Index
In Response To: [Nationwide] Online Searchable Death Index
() Hello, Doll Hargrove: Thank you for this link. It led me to click on Illinois then Cook County County and then I saw "graveyards.com". So I clicked that and scrolled down a list of cemeteries in Cook County and maybe lucked upon a possible burial place of my paternal GF George Walker! It is the "Cook County Cemetery for the Indigent". Unfortunately, there is no address or contact information for this cemetery. The photo provided shows a paved entrance way with a chain-locked, chain-link fence. bent and partially overgrown with vegetation. Doesn't look like anyone's been "home" for many years. One of the messages posted in 2005 by a visitor to this site states that they found their infant brother buried there even though the graves are unmarked. Another message posted 2003 states that deer are roaming around "a large grassy area" w/o signs or stones. Yet another message posted 2005 laments that a gentleman at a funeral parlor that has been in business since 1948 told them "County Cemetery kept NO records and they had row burials. Buried foot to foot.Sometimes 6 to 8 in a grave. With NO markings." Well, as my dear departed grandmother would say, "Whaattt a pity". Georgia Walker-Adams
