[VA] Volunteers Needed
![]() Virginia is the first state in the nation to participate in an historic project to index and digitize Freedmen’s Bureau records, allowing historians and descendents of emancipated slaves, freed Blacks, and Black Union soldiers to access historical data, much of which was never before available. The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia will coordinate the recruitment of community volunteers, who will be given the opportunity to extract and index information contained in the Virginia Freedmen’s Bureau records. The project should be completed by midyear 2007. We are actively recruiting volunteers and invite you to visit our website at http://www.blackhistorymuseum.org/. Please select the button – “Virginia Freedmen Extraction and Indexing Project.”
