Re: [LA] LEJAY family research
In Response To: Re: [LA] LEJAY family research ()
With some help from folks on this site, I've learned a bit about the LeJay family. They lived in Caddo and De Soto parishes. Keithville is in southern Caddo Parish on on of the main roads to De Soto Parish. Records show several James, Jim, or Jimmie LeJay. The first one, Jimmie LeJay, was born February 10, 1908, probably in Shreveport. He married Bessie McDaniel on March 4, 1944, in Shreveport. They had a son, Jimmie, Jr., who was born April 22, 1934. He died in August, 1976. He had been married twice; first to Lela Waddles in 1954, and then to Betty Green in 1972. I don't know about their children. Another James LeJay was born on February 23, 1930 in either Caddo or De Soto parish and died on November 4, 1967, in Los Angeles, California. I don't know much about him except that his mother's maiden name was Collins. The name "John" turns up a couple of times in the LeJay family. As you are John LeJay II, my hunch--and it's only a hunch--is that you were named for John L. LeJay who was born in De Soto Parish in 1924. My guess is that he may have been cousin of your father or grandfather. His father was also named John LeJay. The elder John was born in 1882 in Frierson, De Soto Parish, and married Ella Mitchell. They had at least nine children. Many of the LeJays moved to Southern California and now live in the Riverside-San Bernardino area.
