Re: [PA] Lynching of Z. Walker (Without Santuary)
In Response To: Re: [PA] Lynching of Z. Walker (Without Santuary) ()
I just found out about this about a month ago. I lived in Coatesville, PA for 8 years and never heard of this until about 1 year after I moved out of the City.
This prompted me to read "Coatesville, Pennsylvania and the Lynching of Zachariah Walker".
Our local paper www.dailylocal.com had an article in April that was in reference to a marker to memorialize the site, which I have included the link below. I cannot believe that many are still in the mindset that he deserved what he got.
It is up to a jury of peers to decide one's fate, not the vengence that seemed to take over the locals.
If you feel so inclined, please post your response to the article when you have read the editiorial comment.
There are powers in numbers.
I was also disappointed that there was not an article in our local papers to let us know if the marker was granted. It was 95 years ago on August 11, 2006 that this travesty happened. It should be recognized, I sincerly hope that a memorial will happen on August 11, 2011. I for one will make sure I am there.
