[NC] Faggart Family: From White to Black to White

Incredible as it sounds, something is strange in this. First of all in the 1880 census for Cabarrus County, N.C. John G. Faggart is from N.C. and his wife Mandie was born in Africa, and so was their son Henry born there too. Listed as white according to 1880 Census, however Henry who was born in 1879 shows up twenty years later as Black. This is the same family that has employed, or seem to have employed a lot of Black people for their farming, such as my great grandfather Joel House, who was a cabinetmaker himself working for the Faggart family. I do know however white folks do travel to Africa and I just assume that John's wife was just born their to white parents who was just there on some mission or safari trip. Yet, Mandie did put her birthplace down as Africa...and I wonder how the census takers took to that. Anyway, Henry Family in the 1910 census jumps back to white, and I know he is the same one because I assuming because he was born in 1879 in the same place. Joseph
