Re: [NC] Carolina division
In Response To: Re: [NC] Carolina division ()

Hi VKN,

I just wanted to give you a little background information. I have asked questions about Silas West b. abt. 1832, NC m. Winifred "Winnie" Barefoot b. 1845, Johnston County, NC before. I won't mention the names of the ancestors who we are related to because they are White and the present generation is NOT talking. But we are direct descendants through the WEST DNA test.

We found 5 new sets of WEST cousins by taking this test. The first 4 cousins that matched are great people and are working with us to find out our heritage. But the last WEST that matched was NOT as friendly and will NOT discuss the family history. We have extended our generational chart from 10 to 14 generations. He is from NC. So that takes up back to 1725 instead of 1832.

We found out that, we descended from the WEST in the state of NC and that we were right about our heritage, but the DNA is proof enough. All 5 sets matched 25 out of 25 markers.

The West from SC migrated to MS>AL>LA>AR have been quite friendly and want to help us find our roots. We are now trying to find the connection between James West, B. 1798, SC to the West in NC, which are our ancestors.

The WEST descendants who stayed in NC; Bladen, Cumberland, Sampson, Harnett and Johnston Counties aren't very helpful at all. They know something and don't want to talk about it. My ancestors lived in the same block of dwellings as their ancestors did and sometimes next door. I have found land deeded to my West from some of their West Ancestors. One of the White West Descendant gave name a cemetery after him and it was called the Kirby West Col'd Cemetery.

I was wondering if anyone knew about division of South and North Carolina. I know the Tennessee came from NC through the division of the Tennessee Valley of Authority. I was wonderinh if SC and NC once one state. If I am wrong, please correct me on this? We are now trying to connect our SC West to NC West.

I have been looking for WEBSITES that will clear this up for me and that's why I need help. Thanks for your time.

Alice
