I went to the Gadsden Times office Thursday and really enjoyed going through
the book on 1918 (January through May). But as has been reported before,
they pages are deteriorating rapidly and are in poor, poor, poor condition
for anyone to use much. I was turning top halves separately from bottom
halves !! This is not mishandling; it's just the ravages of time ! There is
no way the pages can be carried to a copier and photocopied. About the best
suggestion I can think of is to take a digital camera or a handheld scanner
that covers about 3.5 to 4 inches. That should cover one column.
Here is a list of the issues that University of Florida has on microfilm for
both the Times and other Gadsden County newspapers. The list also gives
where the papers are available either in book or microfilm format.
