WEST BURLINGTON — A Chicago college professor will present a lecture next week about how blacks lived in Burlington during the 19th century.
David Brodnax, an associate professor at Trinity Christian College, will present "A Desperate Fight for His Liberty" at noon Friday, March 10, at Southeastern Community College Dining Room A–B. The lecture is the second of two black history programs sponsored by the Burlington Chapter of the African American Historical Museum and Cultural Center of Iowa and the Rand Trust. It is free and open to the public.
Brodnax will share stories of blacks in Burlington and southeast Iowa who struggled for freedom, both in the days of slavery before the Civil War and during the period after the war.
