Dawn, I want to say that the Afrigeneas staff is doing a fierce job! Thank You very much for the expert research, dedication, knowledge, skills and compassion!!! Genealogy has never been this fun!!!! Keep up the great job! Alex Haley is smiling!
I am beginning to believe that Eugene Wilford Cox (b. 1911 or 1912) who was born in Shinnston, Harrison County, West Virginia, to Hugh Franklin Cox and Augusta May Cooper, was my biological paternal great-grandfather. When I looked at the birth certificate of my grandfather, Eugene Leon Cox (Peebles), it did state that he was 22 years old at the time of my grandfather's birth on February 20, 1934. You even posted that at the time of the 1930 census, Eugene was listed as Hugh and Augusta's son at the age of 17, but since his birthday was October 2, he would have turned 18 in 1930. The birth year seems to match!
Dawn, I think that this is my Eugene Cox for another reason. We will just speculate here: After the separation of Eugene from Julia Roberts (my paternal great-grandmother, the mother of Eugene Leon Cox), he probably met Margaret Katherine Winston between the years of 1934 and 1937. As for Julia, she must have met Henry Peebles between the same time span.
Now this mystery is getting good! After Eugene married Margaret in 1937, I wonder if they had any children of their own or not. Also, did they ever relocate to another state or town? It seems that Eugene Wilford Cox just disappeared out of sight. This is another mystery: where in the world did Eugene and Margaret go after 1937?
A Curious Great-Grandson,
