Eugene Cox was an African-American man who was last noted in McDowell County, West Virginia during the 1930s. He was born either in 1911 or 1912. He married Julia Roberts and they had a baby boy, Eugene Leon Cox, on February 20, 1934. However, their union did not last long as Julia remarried another man named Henry Peebles. Therefore, Eugene Leon Cox was adopted and renamed Eugene Leon Peebles. As Henry, Julia and Eugene Leon moved to Bessemer, Alabama, Eugene Leon Cox seemed to have disappeared from family memory. In 1994, I learned about Eugene Cox, my great-grandfather!
