Michelle,
This is wonderful. I am so excited to hear from you. Again, my condolences at the loss of your father. My prayers are with you. The Jimmy Wilkins Orchestra was one of the premiere orchestras of its time. It played for the superstar singers of its era. My cousin, Hampton Eugene Johnson (aka "Fathead") played saxophone and he told me about playing for Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Billy Eckstein, Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, Tony Bennett, and many more. Just fascinating. I hope that we can find others who were in the orchestra, family members of orchestra members, or those who just remember this great musical group. Thanks for writing.
Margaret
