Very interesting to me as my family settled what was once known as Banks Settlement in the 1830's and also settled Clear Lake Twp and Henderson twp all within La Porte. They migrated out of La Porte and headed to Kansas/OK border around 1873. The family surname is the Banks & Burdine's with other early Af.Am Settlers pre 1850- such as the Medfords (who if memory serves me correct was the 1st Af. Am who settled in La Porte)
