Re: [AL] Cook Family
In Response To: Re: [AL] Cook Family ()
Yes, I have ancestry.com. This is where I got most if not all of my information so far....which is very little. Augustus Cook b. July 25, 1892 Sycamore, AL d. 1977 Bibb Co., GA
In the 1930 census it also states that Augustus' brother Oree Cook was also living with him. Oree would have been born abt. 1916. With names like Augustus & Oree I was hoping this search would have been much easier...I was obviously wrong. I have found no further information on Oree either (under any spelling or soundex). I have been unable to locate Mary Ida (Cook) in any other census prior to 1930 with sons named Augustus &/or Oree. I found the draft registration for Augustus in 1917. He states that he is supporting his grandfather & grandmother but it doesn't give their names. I do not know if Mary Ida was married and if so how many times.
I also know that either Mary Ida or Augustus was deeded some land in Talladega Co. I do not know from whom she or he received this land. My friend tells me that Augustus' birth father was a white man (or so the family secret is). I find him listed only as a black man or African American (as it states on his draft registration). Whatever the case may be, it is very important to my friend to know his heritage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for responding. Susan
