Re: [NY] Databases & Indexes @ Public Librar
In Response To: [NY] Databases & Indexes @ Public Library ()
The NY Public Library has been going through a series of cuts. All ot the data bases mentioned on this page except for about 4 are not accessible for a computer outside their systems.
So the message about free data bases is a bit misleading. Most of the data bases CAN be accessed if you go to the Schomburg or to the Main Library on 5th Avenue.
I envy some of the Afrigeneas family members whose smaller city libraries offer more data bases on line than New York does. For those who live outside of Manhattan, it is a drag to schlepp, wait for a computer (up to one hour or more) and are limited to how long they can use the data base.
This is not a reflection on the Library staff. One of the librarians (I don't know her name) on the first floor of the genealogy room (Fifth Avenue) is dedicated to helping everyone...she is a pearl.
