In Response To: [NH] DUNBAR surname in Hew Hampshire ()
Elmer E. Dunbar Sr. was most likely born in 1924. He first appears in my records at 3 years old in a boarding house. I think that the 3 year difference in the approximate birth year in due to this. Elmer's father and mother supposedly lived in Hew Hampshire, but his mother was half black and half Portugese. His mother could have originally been from Plymouth, MA (because of the large amount of Portugese immigrants there at the time). Elmer's father was most likely white and eas supposedly unemployed at the time that Elmer and his brother Ralph were put in a boarding house. His brother Ralph Dunbar died in Manchester, NH in 1959 because of a fire caused by falling asleep with a lit cigarette. He lived for a week after the fire, then died. He had a wife named Rachel. Elmer E. Dunbar Sr. was also served in the Air Force and was stations in Greenville, SC.
