Thanks for your response. If any city directories exist for any of those years, I'd be glad for any information you might find on any of those listed individuals.
If your family has been in NJ a long time, you could be related to my cousins. It looks like one of their lines goes back at least as far as the 1700s. Some of those ancestors might have arrived in New Barbados, Bergen County, NJ with English colonials from the Caribbean island of Barbados, or with Dutch colonials from New Amsterdam (New York).
It's their paternal line in NJ that I've been researching. Their family surnames include: Doremus, Eason, Holden, Jones, Jordan, Roberts, and Skidmore. Some of their 19th-century black neighbors and possibly related families include: Aaron, Edgar, Freeman, Hopper, Houseman, Jackson, King, Lane, Moore, Sisco (or Cisco), Vreeland, Zabriskie.
