[SC] Moultrie's of South Carolina
![]() In Response To: Re: [Nationwide] Free Research ()
Wonderful information. My Moultrie family was from Willow (now a part of Norway), Orangeburg County, South Carolina around 1800 - Present. As hard as it is to ask this, I must ask: If our ancestors received their surnames from their owners, then should we research the owners genealogy to determine if the same Moultrie family owned both our ancestors? It would seem that it would be more likely that we are of the same Moultrie if they were kept together upon arrival to this country, or were born on the same plantation. What do you think about that? There was a Governor of SC called Will Moultrie in the late 1700's. Isn't it likely that we received a surname from him/his people?
