Re: [NJ] Violet, Jack, Silvia--Pierson will
In Response To: Re: [NJ] Roberts-Doremus-Jones-Skidmore & related ()
SWD mentioned a black child, Violet, who was transferred from Aaron Peirson/Pierson of Morris, NJ to his granddaughter Mary Ann Johnes in a will dated Jan 8, 1803. The will also mentions two black adults under age 40, Jack and Silvia, who could be related to Violet. I don’t believe they are our relatives (our Jones came to NJ from VA after 1880); but in case it might help someone else, I searched for NJ-born elder black women named Violet in the 1860 census. By that date the child Violet, if still living, would be over 57 years old. Here are their surnames, ages, and locations (city or town, county, state):
Bloomfield, 55, Bridgeport, Fairfield, CT
This could be coincidence, but Violet Thompson in Brooklyn, NY lived with an 18-year-old black woman, Silvia Thompson. Could this be a relative named after the older Silvia? I hope this information might help someone get past a “brick wall” to find a relative.
