I am not really surprised. The surname James happens to pop up here and there, so maybe I should keep looking there. Funny you mentioned that because in the 1900 census of Abbeville, my father's first name is listed as Harry Evans his brother is Ira, and his sister Jessie. Back in the 1980s, I talked to my uncle(he died in 1999), and his name is Ike. I asked if he and Ira were the same. He told me that it was his father's doings, but did not go into details. Anyway Harry was changed to John, Ira was changed to Ike. Jessie kept her name. Strange,uh? Joseph
