My brother did the WEST DNA Project and surprisingly enough we were related to a white, James West, b. 1798, SC, whom we had never heard of before. My G grandfather, Silas West, b. 1832, NC m. Winiifred "Winnie" Barefoot, b. abt. 1845, Meadow Township, Johnston Co, NC. I have all the information on the Barefoot Family dating back to the early 1600s. My ggrandparents were stated as Mulatto in the 1870 census.

I am now in touch with the two other matches 25 out of 25 markers. James West was married twice, the 1st wife and children's names are not known. He divorced or abandoned the family. He married a 2nd wife 5 children and they had more children together. He moved from SC to Wayne Co, TN. He stayed there awhile and later moved to Iltamwaba (sp) Co., MS and died in 1861.

The brick wall is a 34 year gap between James West and Silas West. Is there anyway, I could find out who his first wife and children were? Is it possible, he had a black or Indian 1st wife. Do you have any ideas?
