[IA] African Americans in coal mining towns
How are you? I have switch to the other side of my family. AFr. Amer. family in Oskaloosa , Mahaska County Iowa. That's to this site I did find them in the 1880 census. Whether they were worked for the coal mines is yet to be discovered. However my g grandmother Ada Lewis had a child in 1890. Not sure if born in Oskaloosa or Des Moines, However there is no evidence of his birth or a marriage for her prior to 1892. Is there anyway to obtain that information? His name was Harry the name he used though his life from the time we first see him in the census (1900 for Des Moines Ia. age 9)was Wells. DOB 7Sep1890. Any suggestion or look ups would be greatly-greatly appreciated.
