Bash on Thursday honors Nat Cole

MONTGOMERY -- The Nat King Cole Society is holding a birthday bash for its namesake Thursday at a south Montgomery hotel.

The 11th Annual Nat King Cole Birthday Bash and Scholarship Program is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Governors House Hotel & Conference Center, 2705 E. South Blvd.

The objectives of the program include keeping Cole's music alive in Montgomery, his birthplace, and granting scholarships to deserving high school seniors.

Seven scholarships of $500 each will be awarded Thursday. Any recipient interested in going to the University of Montevallo also will receive a matching $500 scholarship.
