[SC] Traynum Family - Laurens County
I am looking for information regarding the surname TRAYNUM which is found in both SC and VA (variation TRAYNHAM).
I am particularly looking for information regarding the slaves of the Dr. John George (JG) TRAYNUM.
JG TRAYNUM moved to Laurens County from VA in approximately the 1840s. He was a physician and originally from Caroline, VA.
On the 1850 Census he owned 3 slaves:
On the 1860 Census he owned 6 slaves:
I have been doing research on this line of my family for many years and even though I know it is a long shot, I am seeking information regarding Dr. JG Traynham. Family lore states that Pinkney TRAYNUM was one of 5 brothers and all of them went their separate ways in SC, some eventually moved out of state. I recently branched out to Laurens County in my research and found the 1860 slave schedule which listed a male slave of the approximate age of my ancestor as one of 5 brothers and would like to research this family and doctor more thoroughly. I reviewed many of the white families with the surname TRAYNUM/TRAYNHAM and have interacted with them over the years but all I have interacted with were descendants of Lazarus TRAYNUM and his son John Pegg TRAYNUM from Anderson County and not JG TRAYNUM.
Lazarus TRAYNUM had a will listing his slaves and none of them were close in age and none had the same given name as my ancestor.
Any info regarding leads on the slaves of Dr. JG TRAYNUM of Laurens County, SC or any information about where to look for data regarding him individually would be appreciated.
