Is this a rare event in this region?

Very rare to my knowledge.
Was in the area on Monday. The weather was unueually cold. Long about midnite everything was powdered with snow. I was/am intrigued with the ability to capture the breathtaking image that posted to the AJC first edition on Tuesday.
