Thanks so much for this great website ! I looked for and was delighted to find a picture of the Star Creek School in Washington Parish, Louisiana. About a year ago I began aware of a book titled "The Star Creek Papers". The book was written by Horace and Julia Bond who were the parents of Georgia representative Julian Bond. They were two young academics who came to Washington Parish to establish a school. The book chronicled the lynching of one of my wife's relatives in that area and provided genealogies of all of the families involved in the area. Horace and Julia's work was being funded by the Rosenwald Fund. I was struck by the how much this couple was physically involved in the actual building of the school as well as organizing others to to assist on the project. In addition to that they traveled the region raising additional funds for the school from well-off individuals in nearby towns like New Orleans.
