While browsing the 1900 Census on Ancestry I ran across the pages enumerating Greene County, Ohio, Xenia Twp. Dist 95, which happens to include Wiberforce, Ohio. These images included the composition of Wilberfoce Univ., listed were the students, faculty, admimistration and support staff.

It was very interesting to note the diversity of birth locations, particularly the students, as it was both nationwide and international.

The names of the faculty and administration was also quite revealing as there were A.M.E. 'giants' on the campus in 1900.
Bishops - Benjamin W. Arnett & Benjamin Lee
University Pres. - Samuel Mitchell
University Sec'y - Horace Talbert
Clergy - George David, James Maxwell, George Woodson & David Graham
Teachers - George T. Simpson, Hallie Q. Brown,William S. Scarborough &
Joseph P. Shorter
Military - Charles P. Young

These names bring back fond memories of my college days as I remember Arnett, Lee, Mitchell & Shorter Hall ... the Hallie Q. Brown Library and the home of Col. Charles Young as campus landmarks. And in the study of my A.M.E. background, the reading of "Sons of Allen" by Horace Talbert, the later Presidency of William Scarborough at Wilberforce Univ. during the time my great-aunt, Marie Adams, was a student.

From my genealogical research I have learned of tenure of Benjamin Arnett as the Pastor of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Urbana, Ohio during the church's observance of the 1876 centennial celebration of the A.M.E. founding. I have ancestor's who were charter members of St. Paul A.M.E. Church founded in 1824. I can now better relate to direct and collateral family members as to why they may have attended and graduated from Wilberforce Univ. between 1905 & 1910 ... Marie Adams, Clara Cochran, Rosalind Gertrude Simpson, Ennis Champ Warrick. BTW, "Champ's" father, Paul Warrick, was listed as the Janitor for Wilberforce in the 1900 Census.

The last tidbit noted from this
'browsing'. The enumerator for the Wilberforce pages was a 27 y/o student of Wilberforce Univ. by the name of George W. Adams. Hmmmm, does he connect to my Adams ancestor?
