In Response To: Orphans home in Baldwin (Ricky Murray )

What is the timeframe?
There was an orphan school started in the late 1860's by the Freedmens Aid Society of the M.E. Church, and located in Baldwin.

It went through many changes, but eventually was moved to New Orleans. Although the history is muddled, it appears the players were the American Missionary Society (AMA) and the Freedmen's Aid Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church (now UMC).
Check the histories to confirm.

The events leading up to the change were the establishment of Straight University (AMA) and New Orleans University (UMC), and their "replacement", Dillard University.

The original Baldwin Site continued to serve as a school and refuge under the UMC (check their site).
