Have you tried contacting the churches directly to see if they (or any other group) have compiled their histories?
A local historical society may have some of their history, collected from them. Nowadays, some of these small-town societies are collecting African American history as part of their local history. I research primarily in Clark County, Arkansas, and that county's historical society has published quite a bit of information on the African American community.
