As many of you may know, the Enumerations of Educable Children for Mississippi are online through FamilySearch.org. A cousin of mine who does research found several pages from Meridian (Lauderdale County) which list "mullatto niggers," and "black niggers." These were official records, so these terms were considered appropriate for official use ... sad!
