I am currently reading and developing an index to the book: The Brakenridge Colored School , San Antonio, Tx. 1899-1936. The book contains a bibliography and a list of interviewees. The text is chock full of names of ministers, educators , and community leaders, clubs etc. but no way to search for them other than reading the book.
I have found several mentions of my paternal family line. Genealogy is fun , but can get very sterile if you don't have a story to go along with all the dates and places. Just the mention of the person's name in the context of education may send the reader on a search for other documents and sources to show the full life of the ancestor they are researching.
This book tell a great story of "a legacy of empowerment through the agency and cultural capital inside an African American community".
