1930's Franklin School in Kankakee, IL
My Dad attended segregated Franklin School in Kankakee, IL, in the 1930's. The school was torn down many, many years ago, though. A kind lady at the reference desk of the local library there tried to find some old yearbooks, photos or records for me, but was unsuccessful. She could only tell me that during that time period Kankakee was segregated and Franklin was the only school in that area that blacks could have attended. Dad (Claude Walker) was 6 in 1930 and according to his military records, completed the 9th grade. So the school was still in existence at least until the end of the 1930's. Wondered if there were any alumni or descendants of alumni of this school out there? Photos, anyone? Feel free to email me directly at parkin24@afrigeneas.net. Thank you. Georgia Walker-Adams
