1st African-American Greek letter organization
in Gwinnett County celebrates 13 years of service

Lawrenceville, GA (December 30, 2006) - Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, the first African-American Greek letter sorority in Gwinnett County will celebrate 13 years of service on Sunday, January 28, 2007. The chapter will gather for a special and sisterly worship service at Allen Temple United Methodist Church in Buford and then gather for an Anniversary Brunch at Little Gardens Restaurant in Lawrenceville.

"In 1994 my sisters and I chartered this chapter of women dedicated to community service. Each one of us made a promise to do all we could to improve the quality of life for residents in Gwinnett County," said Geri B. Gonzalez, President, Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter. "I am proud of my sorority sisters and the Upsilon Alpha Omega chapter. Since
1994 we have provided service ranging from Cotillions to scholarships with Five Forks Trickum Road beautification efforts, food drives, and economic empowerment in between."

Speaking of serving the community, Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter is preparing to launch a new program that embraces the non-traditional entrepreneur in January. This program is designed to empower and encourage African-Americans to think outside the box in terms of entrepreneurship, and to take advantage of resources available to assist in entrepreneurship endeavors.
