Re: The Cotton Club
In Response To: The Cotton Club ()
"...Warren Coleman, Cotton Club Boys..." Warren Coleman hailed from Boston. He lived from 1900-1968. His brother was Ralph Coleman, "The Dean of Boston's Black Theatre". Warren's career was largely spent in NYC from the 1920's-1950's. He portrayed "Crown" in the original "Porgy and Bess". An avid fisherman, his family has visited Martha's Vineyard for nearly 60 years. He once had a restaurant called Sands of Gold on the Island. Coleman died the day he was to meet the governor of Massachusetts to discuss a Boston library for the Performing Arts Hall of Fame (he felt the city was an appropriate choice because Sammy Davis, Jr. and Lena Horne, among others, began their careers there). Hope that helps. Bijan www.bbayne.com
