Biennial Reed family reunion in Atlanta, GA from August 6 - 8, 2010.
Descendants and extended family members of Elijah and Amanda (Whitt-Nelson)-Reed will celebrate its' 25th gathering since 1962. The family tradition is actually much older and can be traced back to the turn of the century when on Saturday's, the family would finish their work in the fields, gather for a Saturday evening feast and continue with church services on Sunday's. The celebration lasted until 1940, the year that marked the death of Elijah Reed, a former slave born in 1843 Henry County, GA to LCC Adkins and a slave woman named Mariah.
In October of 1962 the family marked the beginning of a new family reunion tradition.
