Do you remember if you bought them from the store or if they were homemade? Your description brought to mind two possibilities: The first is the coconut cookies we used to buy from the store. They were rectangular and had little lines going across the length of them. The 2nd is the "school cookies" we used to buy from the school cafeteria. They were round shortbread-like cookies made with REAL butter and they were slightly crunchy but melted in your mouth! In Memphis there are a couple of places that sell them and I grab a couple dozen every time I'm in town. I actually attended school in the 70's but I've been told by older relatives that these cookies have been around a LONG time. (smile)
