Let the whitepages.com, ancestry.com and facebook.com be your friend. You can't be shy when you are looking for long lost relatives and ancestors. Don't be afraid to call people in the city your father came from or near his last know address. Interview your father's in-laws, friends, and elders in your family.

Send out emails, network with other on facebook with the same last name.

Order birth/death certificates, look at the census if you discover his grandparents from the records you request from the state archives or other state agency such as vital records.

Go to ancestry.com build a tree or look for a public tree with specific surnames and cross reference them with the area or just send out random correspondence to people with Sapp or you father's last name in their family.

All these suggestions have lead me to find over 1,000 long lost living relatives and a family tree with 1800 ancestors and living relatives on it. And I have not complete the first known generation yet. You have to be patient, passionate and polite when your on the journey but it is well worth it.
