This year our Green and Allied Family Gathering will be held at the Welsh Mountain Community Center. Some of our family surnames are Green, Johnson, Nocho, Martin, Stewart, Quash, Coleman, Henson, Parker, and Harris.
The first documented Green on the Mountain was Tom Green, who was clearing land in Salisbury Twp., 1747. In 1792 an article was written about Tom Green, who was head of the Green's Banditti on the Welsh Mountains. The article was posted in the Pennsylvania Gazette a Newspaper founded by Benjamin Franklin. He wrote about Tom and that he had a family on the Mountain. He wondered how this, "Burly Negro" got control of some of the most fertile land in America. His descendants continue to live on the mountains to this day. Many of our ancestors left the mountains seeking economic opportunities. Those who have left the mountains and those who remain on the mountain will gather for this historic reunion.
We will have plenty of food, entertainment, games, and sharing.
