Re: Reunion Humor
In Response To: Reunion Humor ()
We've had quite a few humorous moments putting together our family reunions.
There was the 2004 reunion in Daytona Beach when the opening night event was a 3-hour trip on a SunCruz gambling boat. Oh, and did I mention that there was a hurricane off shore that weekend and the water was so rough that nearly everyone got seasick? I skipped this event but heard ALL about it the next morning.
And then there was the 2002 reunion in Key West, when I had planned the Allen Family "Olympics," a series of good-natured competitive games and events, just for fun as an ice-breaker. Well, one of the events was a Key lime pie eating contest. We got everything set up in the park and I went looking for the pies, which I had set off to the side while lunch was being served. No pies. I searched high and low, went around asking if anyone had seen the pies, but couldn't find them. Finally, I got on the microphone and asked if anyone had seen the pies for the contest. There were some guilty faces and shify eyes looking back at me. You guessed it. They had been sliced and eaten by some very hungry Allen family members! Five pies, gone! Needless to say, there was no pie eating contest that afternoon. We still laugh about that, and during the last reunion a couple of people admitted to me that they'd been one of the culprits. I guess the moral of the story is that food just ain't safe around us! ;-)
