We are facing the same queston with our upcoming reunion. What we decided to do was base the cost on a sliding scale. Our family is huge and many of them have several children. Considering the fact that we have to feed these folks and that they have to pay some of the cost, we decided to do the sliding scale for the ages of the children and our seniors will get a big discount. I think we will do seniors from 55-80 at one rate and make the ones over 80 as honorees who don't pay at all.
As far as scholarship or fundraising, we decided to get our family cookbook published first and use it as a fundraising tool. I'm also looking into The World's Finest Chocolate Company (remember those chocolate almond bars we sold in school?) as an idea too. They will even put the family name and event on the labels.
