Re: Make it a Reunion Project: DNA Testing
In Response To: Make it a Reunion Project: DNA Testing
() I am doing so myself. I went to the AAHGS- Afro American and Genealogy Society Conference this weekend in Wash. DC. Dr Rich Kittles of Ohio University was one of our speakers and he is a genetist. ALL DNA companies may not be who you want to entrust in doing this test for you. Dr Kittles is the only owned Afro American company that guarantees' confidentiality and will not sell any info to outside interest, as per is contract agreement that you must sign before analysis. He stated this company will stay black owned and operated. I waited a couple of years,to see whom I knew personally, might have done this testing with his company. They were pleased with his results. Everyone has to make a decision to do this. News media is saying a lot of negative stuff about the use of this test. If you think about it, there are a lot of slaves that 'crossed over' and their families certainly don't want it proved that they have 'that 1 drop of blood' running through the family veins. It's not yet that 'fashionable' to be known as a descendant to slaves at this time, but a lot of people like to talk about that 'indian blood'. The test is a little costly but if you get together as a family group- it is worth your while. When I get my results I'll let everybody know. The name of Dr Rich Kittles company is African Ancestry. He is also a researcher in the cause of prostate cancer.
