Bravo to you! It is nice to know that you are not alone when confronted with this "ugly" side of family history. My maternal history is one-sided, though plentiful because my 3rd grandmother's side took me aside and feed me information and have made me the official family historian. On the other side, my 3rd grandfather's side is mixed and only half of them contribute. Naturally the light side are the ones not contributing but I have located them anyway, they just don't share and I don't get offended. I have one cousin who could charm the birds and bees out of the trees and he has interviewed and taped more than 100 of the grandchildren of the original slaves in the 1950's and 60's and still people will share information with him. So anytime I have a problem with a lineage hook=up, he helps me with the missing details. He says that we complement each other but I only write it down, he has it on tape with pictures and what he gives me makes me look good:-). I think the important lesson here is that the more things change the more they stay the same. Thank goodness that the younger generation don't think along those lines. Thanks again for sharing.
