Collecting Family Information @ Reunions . A Tool
I came across a reunion tool my ADAMS family uses while going thru my annual end-of-year re-organizing process.
We developed a 'family information card' which is passed out for everyone attending our family reunions. The card functions as an aid to identify individual members and their parents for later input to the family database/tree.
Information requested is full name, including nickname and maiden name for the ladies, along with birth, marriage dates & locations as appropriate. We also ask for this information on deceased family members, if known. Parents can fill out a form for the youngsters (children, grandchildren, etc.). A card may also be filled out for members unable to attend the reunion for various other reasons.
The blank cards, 4"x5", are cut from sheets of 18"x12" construction paper, you can get 9 blank cards from a sheet of paper. Note: make a blank master copy and reproduce/copy as many sheets as required.
The cards are passed out during the reunion and when completed they are placed in a collection box. This is a very inexpensive tool, a package of 40 sheets of the heavy-weight construction paper may be purchased for less than $4.00.
The process really works because as you know when entering data into your genealogy software packages the data is entered ..children to parents one generation at a time. And a major advantage to this process is that it doesn't take your time away from family socializing trying to get this type of information.
An example of the card is shown below. Hope this, or something similar will work for you.
