WE DID IT! ADAMS FAMILY REUNION
The reunion went well. We held it at the Hilton-Chicago/Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale, Illinois. Friday, July 3, we started at 5:00pm with a Meet and Greet with a buffet in one of the conference rooms. A Family History CD that I put together played continously. Each group from different states introduced themselves. My cousin Carolyn Crump told how years ago when in a drug store to pick up a perscription she responded when the name Crump was called and another woman named Crump also responded. Turned out she is related to the woman Cynthia Crump through Carolyn's husband whose name in Crump. As it turns out, Cynthia Crump is also related to us on the Adams side and the look on Carolyn's face when she saw Cynthia at the reunion is priceless. Carolyn's son is a singer and actor under the name David Banner.
Saturday morning we had our rented buses take us to Navy Pier in Chicago. Forty-four of us went on a Lunch Cruise on Lake Michigan aboard the Spirit of Chicago. The other group, about half or so, went to the Taste of Chicago. My wife and I went on the cruise where we ate and enjoyed the show. They had an excellent DJ and everyone danced. he introduced our group - The Adams Family - several times and a lot of people snapped their fingers. I think they were thinking about the TV show. After the cruise there was time for the rest of us to go to the Taste of Chicago or just tour Chicago. My uncle, the one who didn't want me to research the family, told that I was doing a good job and to keep up the good work. He also sat and told me some information that I did not know. We boarded the buses at 5:00 pm and went back to the hotel.
Saturday evening, we had our Dinner Dance. The food was good. The DJ came an hour early and set up. He jammed and the Adams' par-taed, "Shake that ______ leg". James Earl Scott, a cousin I met through Afrigeneas, did a family history presentation. James, a professional photographer, set up his equipment and he and his wife were busy all night taking and printing portraits for family members. We acknowledged three Family Legends for their accomplishments in life, church, community, etc., and presented them with gifts. We do this at each reunion. I was caught by surprise when I was presented as an Adams Family Legend. The party lasted until midnight.
Sunday morning, today, we held a family prayer service that was very moving and emotional. We are blessed to have such a wonderful family and we gave thanks to the Lord each day for the gifts He has bestowed upon us, including the gift of family. We held a family meeting and voted to hold out next reunion in Houston, Texas during June 2011. There is a lot more I could write about the reunion. This is it for now. Thank you Afrigeneas!
