For starters as Mel suggested you might look at www.MyFamily.com ... As you and your family members become more efficient with web-hosting you may then want to change to something more elaborate.
I started a MyFamily site for the descendants of my 3rd great grandparents, Lewis & Susan Adams, eight (8) years ago. Todate we have had 725 members, some come and some go, there is an active core of about 250 members. The membership is nationwide and there are several members living outside of the US of A.
The site is UN/PW protected and is by invitation only. It is relatively inexpensive and very easy to administer.
Not all members actively participate with postings, but they are able to keep abreast of 'what's new' with their extended Adams families.
We have 2170 photos, 1790 news items posted, 175 items in a File Cabinet section and 160 items in a History Section and an Adams Family Tree with over 3,500 desc. of Lewis & Susan Adams.
Whatever you choose..as the saying goes 'try it you will like it'.
p.s. the site has an Address Book, Chat and an Email feature.
