Well, how about a mini-family reunion centered around a holiday or family event (other than a funeral, LOL). I laugh because our family reunion was actually born out of a funeral but nevertheless, you can use Thanksgiving or Christmas as a time to invite as many people over to your house as you can, feed them til they are ready to explode, and then tell them that you are trying to start the reunion back up. There have been times at our house where we have had so many people for Thanksgiving that aside from a picnic and t-shirts, it might as well have been a family reunion.
This is where your creativity and determination comes into play. If you want to have a reunion, do what you need to do to make it happen. If no one is available to donate seed money, how about their time. Someone can design a flyer. Someone can send out mass emails to family members. Someone can use some of their free night and weekend minutes to contact family members.
Where there is a will a way. If you want to have the reunion at a location, maybe you can rent a small hall or use a church fellowship hall. Where I live, the public schools often rent out their facilites on the weekends, maybe that will work. If all else fails, try having a pot-luck dinner/reunion at your home.
I believe that once you replant the seed and get people excited about seeing each other, they will forget about the ugliness of the past and work with you.
