On my Daviss side we have been doing just that. In the off year, they meet in Houston or Palestine Texas and have a Cousins Picnic.. They take about an hour in between frying that good ole catfish or BBQ'n and shore up a few of the tidbits for the big reunion held every two years in the 3rd week-end in July.
Dues that have been collected are turned in and that is what is used to start securing the hotels,shirts and misc kids expenses.(used for families that have more than the average amount of kids. One cousin has about 8 children so this fund can be used to sponser at least 6 of them so that everyone can attend)
I just wish there were more of us in Az that could join forces and do little fund raisers to offset the travel expenses.
