Help change our reunion

Hello,

I have tried for the past 3 years to help with the family reunion. The cost is often expensive for the dinner $45+ and its only one day. This year my aunt is having in her backyard, semi catered. Her house is small as is her yard. She is getting porta potties and it is my understanding no one is allowed in the house.

I have been trying to take over the reins and suggested we expand the reunion to include more days, activities, etc. The only time hotel is ever offered is when the reunion is held in VA. Most reunions have been in NJ. When I was small they were at my grandmoms my aunt’s sister. The young folks rarely attend (under 40). It’s more an old folks reunion. I offered a family fun day the last two years in addition to the reunion. Unfortunately last year I was unable to attend. Yet the local young folks do attend but the out of town young folks don’t come to the reunion at all. I try to get everyone hyped but unfortunately hard feelings abound with some in the family who then don’t pass the word on that reunion is taking place. Also the reunion is the last Saturday of August every year.

I want to put together a package or two and present them to my aunt for next years reunion. I would like it to be a 3 day weekend at the least. Can someone please advice me? The area in NJ that we live doesn’t have anything close by nor does the family homestead in VA. We have family in Chicago, as well as Ohio, the Virgin Islands, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware etc. I wanted to find a middle ground that wasn’t too expensive and had a variety of things to offer. Any suggestions? If you’ve planned a reunion in any of these areas could you send me your itinerary?

As you know money is another big problem. They want cheap to moderate.
