Re: Presenting research at the reunion
In Response To: Presenting research at the reunion ()
I just returned from my 2nd Family Reunion where I presented the culmination of research conducted over the past 3 years. I took all of my research data for the family from 1830 to the 1930 Census and added: over 377 family photographs, obituaries, death certificates, marriage certificates, WWI & WW2 draft registration cards, family stories, wedding date directory, and a master cemetary directory of where family members are buried, put it all together into the form of a book.
I printed 107 copies and also made an iMovie DVD of my favorite pics. The book was 160 pages and printed in full-color. I sold the book at $25 each and the DVD Movie at $10. This covered my costs for printing the books.
I came home with only 20 copies which I suspect will go fast. They LOVED IT! I'm still getting phone calls about the book and beautiful letters and cards.
It was the only way I could think of to share all the research with everyone. I must confess that I believe eventually they'll get around to actually reading it from cover to cover but, it was the PHOTOGRAPHS that truly bought it to life.
It was a long process but a labor of love that I believe will be treasured by family members for generations to come.
