The Harper Family Reunion - We survived it!!
The Harper Family Reunion was held July 3rd - 6th in Elberton, Georgia. This was the first family reunion and many of the descendants of Clarence & Pearl Fortson Harper were in attendance. It was so nice to meet family members for the first time and reconnect with some that we haven't seen in a while. There were many memories shared and new ones created. Just to see so many smiling faces and happy people coming together was a tremendous joy. We already have some eager family members in the Atlanta area talking about wanting to host it in the next two years in ATL. We are excited that this could be the start of so many more reunions in the future.
Many thanks to those who shared ideas or suggestions with me. You help was greatly appreciated. It took a great deal of planning to organize the reunion, but see so many relatives participate was all worth it.
We had two different size "family trees" posted on the walls in the banquet room. One family tree listed the family members we already had on hand and in the order they fell. The other tree also had the same thing, but there were extra spaces provided so that if any names were omitted from the first tree, then they could write their names on the second tree where they were needed.
We had planned to release balloons at the 4th of July picnic in remembrace of our loved ones, but we ran out of time. At the banquet, we did have a special candle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to our loved ones. Overall, we had a wonderful family reunion and looking forward to many, many more to come.
